A delicate Japanese black tea that starts mellow and finishes with a hint of astringency
The first Japanese black tea, or wakoucha, to join our private label, Hayashi Organic Black Tea brings an entirely new taste to the Morihata family, one that starts smooth and mellow but finishes with a touch of black tea’s distinctive astringency. Also available as bagged or bulk tea options.
What to expect: An unusually mellow black tea with an astringent yet smooth finish
Detailed preparation instructions are included in each container. All Morihata teas are certified organic by KOAA (Kagoshima Organic Agriculture Association) in full compliance with USDA standards. Each tin bears the USDA Organic seal.

"When people hear 'Japanese tea,' most immediately think of green tea—but this beautiful wa-kōcha tells a different story. Made from tea leaves grown in Japan’s unique climate and terroir, it has a character distinct from black teas produced elsewhere, shaped by generations of Japanese tea-making expertise. Grown and house-made in small batches at an organic tea farm in Kagoshima, it offers low astringency, elegant natural sweetness, and a softly lingering aroma—an essential part of my afternoon tea ritual." - Yuka Morihata
